A Daily Dose of Employment Information

As mentioned in my previous post, I am lucky enough to be able to work on a variety of projects.  While some projects may be limited to a few weeks or months, we work on a variety of projects that are recurring.  One in particular, an article for the Daily Record is just that – daily!  RESI Applied Economics has been partnering with the Daily Record to provide content for over five years.  The paper is a daily statewide source for business and legal news in Maryland.

dailyrecordlogoEach Friday afternoon, RESI provides the content for the following weeks publications which highlight industry employment activity for the State of Maryland.   The main article, which is nearly a full page, runs in Monday’s newspaper and features a particular State industry.  For example, this week’s article focuses on Maryland’s Information Technology (IT) sector, which makes up approximately 3.5 percent of the State’s overall employment.  The article contains:

  • written analysis regarding industry related employment,
  • average weekly wages,
  • number of employment establishments
  • and  relevant graphs and tables.

The last piece is an analysis of current as well as future employment trends using available data and our own Maryland forecast. The rest of the week spotlights a specific sub-sector‘s employment data.   A sub-sector is a component of the industry, for example, Information Technology Wholesale Distribution is a component of the IT industry.

I enjoy working on this particular project because it helps me stay on top of employment data and current events that may be affecting the industry.  However, this project is certainly not a one-(wo)man show. I get immense help from my coworkers, particularly in the writing and editing.  There’s nothing like knowing that thousand pair of eyeballs will be reading your work to ensure an occasional healthy dose of writer’s block!
